United Set To Table £34.4M+ Bid By ‘This Weekend’ For Serie A Star, ‘Clear Road’ As Chelsea Drop Out Of Race

Manchester United are expected to make their first offer for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana by “this weekend” or the beginning of next week “at the latest”, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian publication claims that the Champions League finalists are expecting United to table an opening bid of €40m (£34.4m) plus add-ons for the Cameroon international.

Inter are not likely to accept the proposal straight away as the Serie A side want a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) to €60m (£51.5m) to sell Onana this summer.

However, the Nerazzurri won’t be able to start a bidding war, as Gazzetta report that Chelsea have dropped out of the race for the keeper, giving United a “clear road” to complete a deal.

Erik ten Hag’s side have already been in contact with Onana’s representatives and personal terms are not thought to be a problem.

The 27-year-old is currently earning €3m a season (around £50,000 a week), but he is set to be offered double that by the Red Devils.

De Gea looks set to leave United on a free transfer

With the Manchester club stepping up their interest in Onana, it appears almost certain that current number one, David De Gea, will depart when his contract expires on Friday.

Reports over the past few months have claimed that the Spaniard would extend his current deal, but it appears a compromise has not been found on a potential wage cut.

De Gea is currently United’s top earner, with a salary of £375,000 a week. He rejected a £200,000 a week proposal from the club back in April, and no progress seems to have been made since then.

Onana will apparently earn half of what De Gea was offered a few months ago, and many believe he would also be a better fit for ten Hag’s style of play.
