United target touches down in England ahead of Old Trafford move

Manchester United target Fred has touched down in England ahead of his proposed move to Old Trafford.

Fred flew into the country with the rest of the Brazil national team, who take on Russia at Anfield on June 3rd as part of their final preparation’s for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

The 25-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months.

Jose Mourinho keen to land the Brazilian to bolster his options in midfield after the retirement of Michael Carrick and imminent departure of Maruoane Fellaini – who is being eyed by Ligue 1 champions PSG.

United are hoping Fred’s stop-over in England can be used as time to complete his switch to Old Trafford before the beginning of this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The midfielder’s agent, former Arsenal star Gilberto Silva, was in England last week to begin talks with United over a potential move.

Fred is expected to cost around £44million, with Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov adamant that the Ukrainian club will extract maximum value for the midfielder.

Akhmetov insisted that Fred will cost United more than both Fernandinho and Alex Teixeira, who left the Ukrainian side who fees of around £32 million and £43 million in 2013 and 2016 respectively.

Manchester City were also thought to be chasing Fred, however have now turned their attentions to Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who is also a target for Liverpool.
