United Suffer Significant Setback In Attempt To Keep Odion Ighalo

Shanghai Shenhua will refuse to extend Odion Ighalo’s loan deal beyond May 31st, according to the Times. Manchester United were hopeful of keeping the Nigerian for longer in the event that the season continues into June.

However, they have been faced with the prospect of having to sign the 30-year-old outright, with it being reported that Shanghai will want the Red Devils to match their £15m asking price.

Ighalo has certainly performed above expectations since arriving in the January transfer window, having scored four goals in eight appearances for United.

However, it was hoped that the Manchester club would have until the end of the campaign to make a decision on whether to sign the player on a permanent basis.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will run the risk of being light up front for the remainder of the season if they don’t give in to Shanghai’s demands, which certainly presents the Red Devils with a major dilemma.
