United Snub Free Transfer Move For Playmaker Who Has 4 Goals And 4 Assists In 9 Games This Season

Manchester United have turned down the chance to sign AC Milan attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu on a free transfer, according to The Athletic‘s Laurie Whitwell.

The Turkish international’s contract expires at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer, but the Red Devils are not said to be pursuing a deal for the playmaker:

It is believed that Calhanoglu’s agent contacted United’s chief transfer negotiator Matt Judge to enquire whether the Manchester club would be keen on taking 26-year-old in the summer.

However, the representative was told in no uncertain terms that United were not interested. The Red Devils already have a number of players who can play as a number 10.

Bruno Fernandes, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and new signing Donny van de Beek are all very capable of playing in that role so there would be no need to sign a player like Calhanoglu.

The midfielder has been in excellent form for AC Milan this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists in just nine appearances.
