United should sell this midfield duo in January, do you agree?

It’s been a tough month or so for the boys in Red.

Before Monday’s 2-0 win over Everton, Jose Mourinho’s side had gone four games in all competitions without a win. Their poor run started with elimination from the Carabao Cup at the hands of Bristol City, before three consecutive top flight draws against Leicester, Burnley and Southampton.

The winless streak saw United drop 15 points behind rivals Manchester City in the chase for the title.

While that gap may be almost unassailable, Mourinho’s side can still do their best to ensure at least a top four finish.

Investment in January is a must in order to make that dream a reality, but players in, unfortunately means players out. These two stars should be shown the exit from Old Trafford this month, do you agree?

Juan Mata

Hold your horses. Juan Mata is definitely good enough to play for Manchester United. He’s even good enough to warrant playing in the number 10 role craves so much. The sad fact is though, he doesn’t, and probably won’t.

With Mourinho preferring Paul Pogba (when fit) in that role, Mata is not being utilised properly at Old Trafford. A quality midfielder with an eye for an acute pass and wonderful ability to keep the ball at his feet – the magic little Spaniard is built for Pogba’s role, much like David Silva at Manchester City.

While a good option, Mata would command a hefty fee for his services elsewhere. Perhaps it is time to part ways with the former Chelsea man and use the money raised to invest elsewhere, notably in defence or in a second striker.

Marouane Fellaini

Please, please, please (no, not The Smiths song) let Manchester United fans get what they want and have big, bumbling Belgian Marouane Fellaini leave the club this January.

A host of clubs, including West Ham United and surprisingly PSG, have already registered their interest in the midfielder, and if United don’t sell up now, there could be consequences.

Regardless of your opinion of Fellaini, he will still be worth a pretty penny in today’s market, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, he could leave on a free in the summer if he’s not sold now.
