United set to miss out on World Cup superstar to Everton

Manchester United are set to miss out on Barcelona and Colombia defender Yerry Mina, according to reports.

Mina starred with his country at the World Cup this summer, scoring three goals as Colombia reached the last-16, where they were knocked out on penalties by England.

And his performances in Russia turned the heads of a number of European clubs, including Manchester United, with manager Jose Mourinho keen to land the 23-year-old as he looks to bolster his defence ahead of the new season.

Reports last week suggested United had opened talks with Barcelona over the transfer of the £30 million rated star, however it is now understood talks have been called off with the Red Devils unwilling to match Barca’s valuation of the young defender.

And with negotiations between United and the Catalan side having broken down, Everton have now stolen a march on the Red Devils to take pole position to land Mina before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Goal report the Toffees have agreed a €32 million fee with Barcelona for Mina, and that the Colombian is set to fly into merseyside to agree personal terms and complete a medical before the week’s end.

If Mina joins Everton, he will become their third signing of the summer after the club completed a £50 million deal for Watford’s Richarlison and signed Mina’s Barcelona team-mate Lucas Digne.
