United Set For Crunch Talks Over Striker’s Future With End Of May Deadline Approaching

Manchester United are looking to extend Odion Ighalo’s loan spell beyond the end of the month, according to reports in the UK.

The Nigerian international was signed on deadline day in January with the player scheduled to return to his parent club Shanghai Shenhua for the start of June.

However, with the Premier League season likely to be extended due to the global health crisis, United will attempt to keep Ighalo for a longer period.

The 30-year-old has performed beyond expectations since his arrival at Old Trafford, having scored four goals in eight games for the Red Devils.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will certainly want to keep Ighalo with the club unlikely to be able to register any new recruits before the campaign comes to an end.

Much will depend on Shanghai Shenhua’s willingness to change their current loan agreement. There are reports that the deal includes a purchase clause and the Chinese Super League club may insist that the Reds trigger their option to complete a permanent transfer.
