United Send Scouts To See Milan Star In Action As They Eye Darmian Replacement

Manchester United had scouts at the San Siro last weekend to watch AC Milan right-back Davide Calabria, according to reports in Italy.

Matteo Darmian’s current deal expires in the summer, and although the Red Devils have an option to extend the Italian’s contract for another year, the fullback is likely to depart next summer.

Calabria is seven years younger than the United defender and could be seen as a possible replacement. However, United’s representatives would not have seen the 22-year-old play in his usual position in the 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina.

Rossoneri boss Gennaro Gattuso utilised the Italian Under 21 international in an unfamiliar central midfield role; the first time he had played in the position all season.

Calabria has made 69 appearances since making his senior debut against Atalanta back in May 2015. He has started 12 of Milan’s 15 league games so far this campaign and has established himself as first choice ahead of the more experienced Ignazio Abate.
