Manchester United are “pressing” to snap up unsettled Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, according to Sport.

The France international only joined the newly crowned La Liga champions from Sevilla last summer, but he is not happy about being played as a fullback, rather than his natural position at centre-half.

Kounde decided to join Barca instead of Chelsea at the start of the season, but it is believed that the Blues may revive their interest in the 24-year-old.

Sport claim that both United and the London club are keen on securing the centre-back’s signature but they will need to pay around €75m (£65m) to get him. That is €20m more than Barcelona originally paid for the player but the Catalan club are reluctant to let him go.

United are looking to strengthen their options at the back

With doubts over the future of captain Harry Maguire, manager Erik ten Hag is likely to be seeking to reinforce his options in defence.

Kounde’s flexibility to play as both a centre-back and right-back could also free up funds to spend on other areas of the pitch. The Red Devils are said to be in the market for a new number nine, a midfielder and perhaps another winger.
