United Prepared To Pay £51m In January Battle With PSG For Serie A Midfield Maestro

Manchester United are willing to shell out €60m (£51m) on Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to reports in the Italian media. The Red Devils will, though, face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.

The Italian international has been in excellent form for the Giallorossi this campaign, having scored five goals and provided one assist in 17 appearances.

Zaniolo can play out wide on the right, or as a number 10 which would solve two problem positions for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The absence of Paul Pogba due to injury has exposed a real lack of depth in the middle of the park, with Andreas Pereira and Fred having struggled in the 3-3 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Whether Zaniolo is worth £51m though, it is up for debate. Roma signed the 20-year-old from Inter Milan for just £4m last summer, and he has so far made just 40 appearances in the Italian top flight.

Even so, he is an extremely promising player for the future and would certainly meet United’s criteria for signing young talent that they can develop.
