United Prepared To Break World Transfer Record For Defender With £100m Bid

Manchester United are prepared to pay £100m to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper reports that United chief executive Ed Woodward has made the funds available for Jose Mourinho to make a move for a centre-back in the January transfer window.

Koulibaly is not the only player being considered, though, with Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar, AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld all on the club’s list of potential targets.

A move for the Spurs centre-half would likely be the cheapest. The Belgian international will be available for just £25m in the summer due to a release clause in his contract, and his club may settle for a lot less than the £70m they were reportedly demanding in the summer.

Koulibaly, meanwhile, is not only interesting United with reports in Italy suggesting that both Chelsea and Real Madrid are also keen on the 27-year-old.
