Hojlund, Lindelof And Antony To Start: Rashford And Mount On The Bench: United’s Predicted XI To Play Chelsea

Manchester United were very much second-best against Newcastle on Saturday. The 1-0 scoreline does not really reflect the dominance that the home side had in the game.

Manager Erik ten Hag will be hoping for a reaction when the Red Devils take on Chelsea. The Blues beat Brighton with only ten men so they will be coming to Old Trafford after a morale-boosting victory.

In terms of United’s starting lineup, Andre Onana will start in goal, while Diogo Dalot could switch to right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka making way after being at fault for Anthony Gordon’s winner at the weekend.

Having been deployed at centre-half versus the Magpies, Luke Shaw may be moved to left-back, which would allow Victor Lindelof to come back into the side, and partner Harry Maguire in the centre of defence.

In midfield, ten Hag is likely to keep faith with the trio of Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay and captain Bruno Fernandes. Mason Mount is back in training but he is not likely to be fit enough to start after recovering from a calf injury. He could, however, be among the substitutes to face his former club on Wednesday night.

Neither Marcus Rashford nor Anthony Martial proved much of a threat at St James’ Park so there is a good case for dropping the pair for the Chelsea clash. That could mean Rasmus Hojlund returns to the starting lineup, taking his position up top.

Antony has looked brighter in recent outings so the Brazilian may be given the chance to start from the right flank, with Alejandro Garnacho keeping his place on the opposite wing.
