United planning sensation swap-deal to bring Real Madrid superstar back to Old Trafford

Manchester United are planning a sensational move to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, according to reports from Spain.

Diario Gol report that the Red Devils have two plans laid out to land the Portuguese superstar this summer.

The first includes a swap deal with Paul Pogba and a fee of £43 million, while the second would see them launch a £142m bid to re-sign their former player.

Ronaldo left United for Madrid in 2009 for a then world record fee of £80 million, and has since established himself as one of the game’s all time greats.

During his time at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo has won four Ballon d’Or awards (taking his total to five) and has won three Champions League titles. He has also helped Madrid to two La Liga triumphs, firstly in 2011/12 and most recently 2016/17.

The 33-year-old however has encountered a number of problems at Madrid over the past two seasons, including fall-outs with fans, team-mates and manager Zinedine Zidane – leading to speculation he could return to his former side.

United manager Jose Mourinho admits he would be interested in re-joining forces with Ronaldo (the pair spent three seasons together in Spain between 2010 and 2013), however concedes a move for the current ‘world’s best player’ would be extremely unlikely.

“I believe that Real Madrid cannot sell him, it is prohibited,” Mourinho told Portuguese newspaper Record.

“He has to stay until the moment they authorise him to go and play one year in America or anywhere else that he wants to enjoy. It is a closed door.

“But all the people know his history in Manchester, the passion they have for him and that there are players in the world who, if the clubs have the possibility of signing, will not say no.”
