United On Alert As It Is Claimed That Spanish Ace (Who They Tabled A 90M Bid For) Could Become Available For Free

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Barcelona forward Ansu Fati’s contract situation, according to reports in the English media.

The Spanish international’s current deal with Barca expires at the end of the season, but the Catalan club do have an option to extend his stay at the Camp Nou for another two years.

This clause has, however, been disputed by Fati’s agent Jorge Mendes. FIFA rules stipulate that any contract signed by a player below the age of 18 cannot be longer than three years in length.

With the option to extend taken into account, the deal that Fati is currently on would stretch to five years in total, leading to Mendes and the player’s father to suggest that the forward should be free to leave Barcelona at the end of the season.

United have been regularly linked with Fati, with a report in the Catalan media last year claiming that the Red Devils had tabled a €100m (£90m) offer for the player. Whether they are still interested in recruiting the teenager, we shall have to wait and see.
