United On Alert As £170m Rated Defender Considers Leaving Spanish Giants

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane is said to be considering his future at the Spanish club, according to reports in France.

Manchester United were interested in signing the French international back in 2015/16 when he was unsettled due to a lack of game time.

However, since then, Varane has established himself as a key first team player, having signed a new contract back in September 2017 with a €200m (£170m) release clause.

The reason behind why he is looking to leave the Bernabeu now is unclear, especially with mentor Zinedine Zidane having recently returned as manager of the club.

It has been suggested that Varane may be sending out noises in order to get an improved contract, but United will surely be keeping an eye on the situation.

The Red Devils reportedly have four centre-back targets, but the World Cup winner’s name would almost certainly be added to that list if he was available.
