United Now Involved In Three Team Battle For De Gea Replacement Who Has Been Dubbed France’s “Future No 1”

Manchester United will have to battle Chelsea and Bayern Munich for Leeds United goalkeeper Ilhan Meslier, according to Media Foot.

The French website claim that the 22-year-old is being eyed as a potential successor for Manuel Neuer in Bayern’s goal but the Bundesliga champions face an uphill battle to sign him.

Meslier’s preference would be to remain in England, where he has spent the last two and a half years after moving from Lorient in the summer of 2020.

Pundit Tony Cascarino was waxing lyrical about the keeper’s potential soon after he arrived at Leeds, touting him to become a regular for France at international level:

“It is exciting to think how good he could become. Meslier stands at 6ft 6in and still has a wiry frame. As he continues to grow and develop his upper body strength, he will become an even more fearsome physical presence in the box. We are looking at the future No 1 for the French national team.”

Meslier certainly has age on his side, as well as the physical attributes, to be a mainstay in a Premier League team’s starting eleven for many years to come. Whether he will end up being David De Gea’s replacement at Old Trafford, though, we shall have to wait and see.
