United Now In Pole Position To Secure La Liga Star For 43M

Manchester United are expected to win the battle to sign Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The 24-year-old has also been heavily linked with Real Madrid, and a host of other teams, including Arsenal and Chelsea, but it is believed that the Red Devils are now favourites to secure the defender’s signature.

Torres does have a release clause that means he could be signed fro €50m (£43m) but it is claimed that the fee will rise to €65m (£56m) if he remains at Villarreal until the final 15 days of the transfer window.

As a consequence, United will need to move fast to snap up the Spanish international at the end of the season, and it seems they have already put the foundations in place to get the deal finalised.

Both Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde have been mentioned as potential alternatives but it appears as though manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has settled on Torres.
