United Now Among Seven Teams Pursuing 11 Goal Forward With 128M Release Clause

Manchester United and six other clubs remain in the race to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

Back in October, there were claims in the English press that United had joined Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in the battle for the Uruguayan international.

However, it appears that some teams have dropped out of the running for Nunez while others have entered the fray over the past couple of months.

While United and City are still in the frame, Newcastle, West Ham, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and AC Milan are now also interested in the forward.

Nunez has been in decent form this season, scoring 11 goals in 17 appearances but Benfica are said to be against selling him during the January transfer window.

Any team who makes an approach next month will reportedly have to pay the 22-year-old’s release clause, which currently stands at €150m (£128m). Clubs are very unlikely to pay that figure.
