Former Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell is a leading candidate to take charge of Manchester United’s recruitment if Sir Jim Ratcliffe does take a 25% stake in the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel, the journalist confirmed that talks have taken place with Mitchell, although an agreement has not been finalised yet.
Most supporters on X would back the appointment of Mitchell, who has had a good track with his previous teams, which include Southampton, Tottenham and RB Leipzig:
Get it done

He’s better than what we’ve got at the moment but he’s not the best sporting director in the business. So why are we going for him?

What do United fans need to know about Paul Mitchell?
The Englishman had a brief career in the lower leagues before retiring from professional football at the age of just 27. Just a year after his retirement, he became Head of Recruitment at MK Dons.
After a couple of seasons with the EFL club, Mitchell was headhunted by Southampton, who made him their Head of Scouting. During his two years with the Saints, he recruited the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Maya Yoshida, and Steven Davis, working closely with Mauricio Pochettino.
That association led to him following Pochettino to Tottenham when the Argentinian manager was appointed in 2014. At Spurs, Mitchell helped sign Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Kieran Trippier. His reputation for spotting talent led to subsequent roles at the Red Bull Group and Monaco. He left the latter after 3 years earlier this month.
