Former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino “would love” to be Manchester United’s next manager, according to The Telegraph‘s Chief Football Correspondent Jason Burt.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday morning (quotes via GiveMeSport), Burt claimed that Pochettino is ready to take the hot seat at Old Trafford if Erik ten Hag is sacked after the FA Cup final this weekend:
“Pochettino would certainly love the job and has been talked about in the past, and suddenly his availability makes him a candidate.”
A report by The Guardian has claimed that ten Hag will leave United after the match against Manchester City but, at the time of writing, that hasn’t been confirmed by other sources.
Pochettino is available, having been let go by Chelsea earlier this week, and it appears he is prepared to go right back into management if the Red Devils are looking for a new head coach.
Who are the frontrunners to become Manchester United’s next manager?
In addition to Pochettino, it is believed that another former Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel is a contender. The German is leaving Bayern Munich and Burt says that he “definitely wants” the job at United if it becomes available.
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna, Brentford manager Thomas Frank and former Brighton coach Graham Potter could also be considered as candidates.
Ten Hag’s future looks bleak
Following The Guardian story, a number of other reports have been published claiming that no decision has been made on the Dutchman’s future.
There is meant to be an end-of-season review following the cup final where the club will assess the team’s progress under ten Hag. However, the amount of speculation does hint there is more going on. We are likely to find out more over the coming days.
