Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is weighing up whether to start Mason Mount on the right wing as he looks at potential replacements for Antony, according to the MEN.

The England international was signed from Chelsea for £60m in the summer, but the initial intention was to play him in central areas.

However, Antony’s leave of absence, as well as Sancho’s falling out with ten Hag, has left a dearth of options on the right flank.

Against Brighton, ten Hag decided to play with a diamond in midfield and start two up top. While the change in formation initially seemed to work, the Seagulls managed to find gaps in the system that left the Red Devils exposed defensively.

For the Bayern game midweek, Facundo Pellistri was given a runout. While the Uruguayan international started the match well, he faded in the second half and there are concerns about his lack of experience. That has led ten Hag to consider Mount instead.

Does Mount have much experience playing on the right wing?

The 24-year-old has only started on the right flank on 13 occasions in his career, with 9 of those being appearances for Chelsea. He has a decent return, scoring 5 goals and providing 5 assists in those games.

When Mount is deployed in a front three, the midfielder is usually selected on the opposite flank, having made 33 starts as a left winger.

Will Mount be fit to face Burnley?

Manager Erik ten Hag is expected to speak about the midfielder’s fitness at his press conference on Friday afternoon but he is likely to be available for the match at Turf Moor.

Considering Mount hasn’t played for well over a month, with his last game being the defeat to Tottenham, there are question marks over whether he will be fit to start on Saturday evening.
