Manchester United legend Gary Pallister is pessimistic about his former club’s prospects heading into the match against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Red Devils have recently suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, with a seriously depleted squad due to injuries. Speaking to BetVictor, Pallister said that Erik ten Hag’s side have a tough task on his hands getting any points off an in-form opponent:
“If you’re a United fan, you’re probably fearing the worst. Arsenal are obviously flying, they’re confident. They’ve got something to fight for, they’re in that fight with Manchester City for the Premier League. It’s going to be a really difficult game.”
“Even the staunchest of United fans will probably be thinking they can’t win that game because they’re struggling to even get men on the pitch. I don’t think they’re going to have many players back.”
Pallister said that he won’t completely write off United but they will need a lot of things to go their way if they are to secure a positive result this weekend:
“I’m never going to say never because things can happen at Old Trafford and you might get a big performance. But it’s going to take a mighty performance and maybe a bit of luck to get a result against Arsenal on Sunday.”
What are United’s odds of winning against Arsenal?
The bookmakers have ten Hag’s men at 13/2 to pick up a victory, which are quite extraordinary odds for a United game at Old Trafford.
The punters are certainly not backing the Red Devils to get anything out of this match. Their poor form and their injury list has a lot to do with that.
Some players will, though, return for Sunday’s fixture. Captain Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay are all available again while Lisandro Martinez could make the bench after spending the last six weeks on the treatment table.
