United Make Surprising Decision On Erik Ten Hag’s Future

Manchester United are “planning” to offer manager Erik ten Hag a new contract, according to 90min.com.

The website claims that the club’s board were always intending to begin talks with the Dutchman about extending his deal 18 months after his arrival at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag’s current agreement expires in 2025, with an option for an additional year, but United’s chief executive Richard Arnold and Football Director John Murtough are keen to keep hold of their current manager for longer.

That is despite the fact that the Red Devils haven’t made the best start to the season, having won 3 and lost 3 of their opening 6 Premier League fixtures.

Some fans will be perplexed that ten Hag could be rewarded for such a weak start to his second year in charge.

However, there is an acknowledgment that the 53-year-old is making every effort to change the culture inside the club.

The Sancho situation is seen as an example of strong leadership

Previous managers may have given in to player power, but United’s board are fully behind ten Hag’s decision to freeze out Jadon Sancho, despite the player being the club’s fourth-highest earner.

While some may see it as a sign of strength that ten Hag can discipline one of his players in such a way, others will claim it is poor man management.

United need to find consistency on the pitch

While it is all well and good that the club’s board are impressed with ten Hag’s management style, results will be be determining factor in whether he ultimately signs another contract.

There were some good signs against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup that the team is moving in the direction but they need to follow it up when they face the same opponent in the league this weekend.
