Fans may have to wait until “next week” to discover whether Erik ten Hag will stay as Manchester United manager, according to Manchester World.
It has been widely reported that the club are conducting an end-of-season review; the results of which are expected imminently.
However, ten Hag is currently on holiday and Manchester World believe a decision on his future is “unlikely to be communicated” to him by the end of this week.
The Dutchman has already publicly stated that he expects to remain at Old Trafford, with his FA Cup final win over rivals City last weekend bolstering his case to stay in his post.
Even so, there have been multiple reports that INEOS have decided to dispense with ten Hag’s services. The Guardian and the Daily Mail say the 54-year-old’s time at the club is up.
Other media outlets have been more cautious in predicting ten Hag’s future
Manchester World are among those who have reported that ten Hag’s fate has not been sealed. The Manchester Evening News have held a very similar line.
While a sizeable majority of supporters want ten Hag to stay, that view may not be shared by key shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, new CEO Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox.
Who are the candidates to replace ten Hag as United manager?
If the Dutchman is sacked, there are thought to be at least five managers in the running to succeed him in the dugout. THREE former Chelsea head coaches; Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter are in the frame.
INEOS have also reportedly held face-to-face discussions with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
The fact that the club have sounded out potential replacements does suggest ten Hag’s job is in serious jeopardy.
