“He Frightens Me” – Ian Wright Issues Damning Assessment Of United Summer Signing

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he is not confident that Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will recover from his poor start to life at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has made a number of mistakes since joining the Red Devils from Inter Milan for £47m and Wright says that he would be scared of playing in the same team as him due to the number of poor goals he is conceding:

“When you look at the mistakes, hopefully, he’s got the mentality to get through it. Not even as a Man United fan, he frightens me simply because he makes so many mistakes. Because if you score two then you will still worry you will concede three.”

“It would scare me playing with him at the moment. On the floor, he’s very good and his passing, but I’m not seeing in the way he plays that makes me think he’s getting through that [bad run of form].”

Wright’s concerns about Onana are justified

While Wright himself is not an expert on goalkeepers, his fellow pundit, former Manchester United No.1, Peter Schmeichel is.

Speaking a couple of weeks ago, the Danish legend revealed that Onana has a technical flaw in his game which he needs to rectify if he is going to improve his performances.

Will ten Hag keep faith with the player?

It’s almost certain that Onana will be selected in goal when the Red Devils take on Sheffield United this weekend but, if he continues to make errors, a decision will have to be made at some point.

Altay Bayindir was signed from Fenerbahce in the summer and there is certainly a case for the Turkish international to be handed a starting opportunity to see what he can do sooner rather than later.
