Manchester United must complete a deal for defender Nicolas Otamendi if they are to have any chance of winning the Premier League this year. The Argentine has been linked with United for some time, a new centre back is a much needed addition to the side this summer – especially a defensive general like the 27-year-old.
The 27-year-old has a £35m release clause with Valencia, but United will almost certainly look to do business for a figure well below that. As it stands, the rumours of Otamendi joining United have died down. More recently he has been linked with a move to Manchester City (of all the clubs, eh?). So let’s hope United cough up the full amount and get the deal done.
After joining Porto for €4m, Otamendi moved to Valencia last year for €12m. His first year at the Spanish club saw him make La Liga’s team of the year and help his side qualify for next season’s Champions League. He has made his name as one of the best central defenders around, meaning he would be a great fit at United who have longed for a real muscle at the back since the departure of Ferdinand and Vidic.
£35m may be a little steep for the player, but it has to be said that he would greatly improve the side. Not to mention we should be trying anything it takes to ensure City don’t land the Argentine!
Come on Ed, get the deal done! Imagine if United got deals for Otamendi and Pedro wrapped up, it would surely go down as one of the best transfer windows in the clubs history.
