United May Make A U Turn On Bid For Bundesliga Star If They Have To Pay A 20M Premium

Manchester United are yet to decide whether to make a formal offer for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, according to the Daily Telegraph.

There is reportedly a split among the decision-makers at Old Trafford over whether they should pay £60m for the 21-year-old when he will be available for just under £40m next summer.

Upamecano signed a new contract at the end of July which is believed to have a release clause allowing him to leave for a cut-price fee in a year’s time but delaying the transfer comes with its own risks.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely keen to add the Frenchman to his ranks now to form a formidable partnership with Harry Maguire. That solid foundation could help the club reach its goals this season.

However, there are also some at United who feel Upamecano would benefit from an additional year of experience playing in the Bundesliga, but it must be pointed out that his availability next summer would also attract other teams to the table.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with the France Under 21 international in recent months.
