Sir Jim Ratcliffe has had face-to-face talks with ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel about the Manchester United job, according to journalist Christian Falk.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Falk said that the “secret meeting” took place on June 4th and a number of topics were discussed:
“According to my information, there was a secret meeting in Monaco last Tuesday between ex-Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel and the new Manchester United shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe!”
“The British billionaire is said to have listened to Tuchel’s vision for the future of United in order to explore a collaboration for the upcoming season.”
What did Ratcliffe and Tuchel discuss?
It is believed that Tuchel talked up his ability to improve individual players, stating he could get the best out of Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount; something that current boss Erik ten Hag has failed to do.
Tuchel is said to have used the example of Antonio Rudiger who he worked with at Chelsea. The German was a key player as the Blues lifted the Champions League in 2021, and he has now won another with Real Madrid.
When will ten Hag’s future at United be decided?
The club’s end-of-season review is expected to conclude within the next few days, and ten Hag will then be informed of the board’s decision.
At the moment, there is no indication as to whether the Dutchman will remain in his post or not but Ratcliffe’s reported discussions with Tuchel and other managerial candidates does suggest a change in the dugout is being seriously considered.
The majority of supporters are keen for ten Hag to stay at Old Trafford, especially after winning the FA Cup last month, but Ratcliffe and INEOS are taking their time before making what will be a very important decision.
