United Make Leipzig Chief Top Target As They Restructure Their Football Operations

Manchester United have made former Tottenham and Southampton head of recruitment Paul Mitchell their top target for their new Director of Football position, according to reports in England.

The Englishman is currently at Bundesliga side RB Leipzig but United CEO Ed Woodward is believed to be keen for him to spearhead the club’s restructuring of their football operations.

The Red Devils have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager until the end of the season so a root and branch review of the football club can be undertaken.

However, the interest in Mitchell would suggest they are also targeting a former colleague of his in Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentinian manager worked closely with Mitchell at both the Saints and Spurs before the latter’s departure from the London club in 2016. At the time, Pochettino confirmed he tried to persuade his head of recruitment to stay but to no avail.

Mitchell’s appointment at United would lead to many thinking that the club would then look to appoint Pochettino in the summer.
