Manchester United have been talking to the agents of Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Spanish international has been linked with a move to West Ham in recent days, while Arsenal have also been credited with an interest this summer, but it appears United are the latest club to enquire about the player.

Ruiz has less than a year left on his contract at Napoli and it was reported last month that he could be available for just €30m (£25m).

The 26-year-old would certainly be a lot cheaper than Lazio’s Sergey Milinkovic-Savic, who is believed to be valued at around €70m (£59m).

It could also be argued that Ruiz would be a better fit than Milinkovic-Savic in terms of being a potential alternative to Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

Ruiz was deployed as a holding midfielder on a number of occasions by Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti last season, and his ability to play in deeper-lying positions would be a major plus point for Erik ten Hag.
