United Legend Irwin Tips 19-Year-Old Fullback For Big Things At The Club

Manchester United legend Denis Irwin believes Diogo Dalot has a bright future ahead of him at the club.

The Irishman fully admits he didn’t know a lot about the Portuguese fullback when he arrived in the summer from Porto, but he has been impressed by what he has seen of the defender:

“His crossing ability is great, he’s only a young boy. It usually takes foreign young lads quite a while to settle and get used to the pace of the Premier League – particularly when they’ve been injured as well – but he looks like he’s a very good long-term prospect.

“He’s really solid [in his build], which is what you need for the Premier League. But from the bits we’ve seen of him, he looks a real good player.”

Dalot has only played 10 games for the club since his £19m move due to injury problems. However, at 19 years of age, the fullback has time on his side to make a name for himself at the club.

Caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named the teenager on the bench for the last two Premier League games.

The Norwegian has opted for experience instead with Ashley Young having been picked regularly at right-back.

Dalot’s time will surely come in the not too distant future. The Portuguese Under 21 international has already shown flashes of his true potential, and he will want to show more when he is next afforded a chance in the first team.
