United Join Real Madrid In Race For £26.4m Rated La Liga Star As They Seek Rival For Shaw

Manchester United have joined Real Madrid in the battle to sign Real Betis left-back Junior Firpo, according to reports in Spain.

The Dominican Republic defender has a €50m release clause but it is said the Red Devils could be prepared to offer €30m (£26.4m) for the player.

Firpo is also on Real’s radar as they seek a long-term replacement for Marcelo, while United are likely seeking competition for player of the year Luke Shaw.

With Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, the Manchester club will be lacking options in full-back areas.

Firpo can play either at left-back or as a wing-back, having provided an assist in the 2-0 win against Real on the final day of the La Liga season.

The 22-year-old has, though, had his issues with injuries this season, having been sidelined for the best part of three months with hamstring and muscular problems. He still managed to play 29 times in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
