United join Liverpool in the race for Nabil Fekir?

Manchester United have been reportedly eyeing up a swoop for Liverpool’s top transfer target Nabil Fekir this summer, after comments made by the manager of Lyon.

Fekir looked all set to join Liverpool this summer, with a fee agreed between clubs and personal terms completed between the France international and the Reds.

It was also believed that Fekir had already posed for pictures in the new Liverpool home kit, but talks dramatically broke down when Liverpool hesitated on the demanded fee and after speculation that the player’s medical history was an issue.

The midfielder is at the World Cup with France this summer, and Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has hinted that United could be interested in landing their star man.

“I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions,” Aulas told beIN Sports.

“Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool. At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.

“It was expected at a certain point for him to go to Liverpool. I gave the green light. It did not happen because things were dragged out too long.”

Mourinho has already brought in two reinforcements this summer, with Brazil international Fred and Portuguese U21 international Diogo Dalot joining for a combined fee of around £70m.

Fekir would not come cheap though, with the Ligue 1 giants demanding a fee of over £60m.
