United ‘In The Lead’ To Sign Real Madrid Star Who Admits That He’s Weighing Up “Possibilities” To Leave Spain

Manchester United and Juventus are “in the lead” to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Catalan publication reports that the 26-year-old is seriously considering leaving the Bernabeu as he is keen on making sure that he makes Spain’s World Cup squad. The forward has twelve months remaining on his current deal and, speaking about his future earlier this week, Asensio admitted that he is weighing up his options:

“I have one year left on my contract. When this [international duty] is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. I think there are possibilities. There is also the option to stay and fulfill my contract year. Rumours are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid. High-level players are always associated with it. It’s something we have to live with.”

Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Asensio, but United are the only English team who are believed to be serious about making a move for the Spaniard at the moment.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that the Red Devils were contacted by Asensio’s agent, Jorge Mendes, about a potential deal and Mundo Deportivo’s reports suggest they are looking to sign the player.

Manager Erik ten Hag could certainly do with more options on the right flank, and Asensio would be a cheaper alternative to Ajax’s Antony, who has been linked with a €60m switch to Old Trafford in recent days.
