United Have ‘Identified’ Swiss International As Potential New ‘Long Term Partner’ For Harry Maguire

Manchester United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji, according to 90min.com.

The website claims that the Red Devils have “identified” the 25-year-old a “long term partner” for Harry Maguire in the centre of defence.

Akanji has also been on Arsenal and Liverpool’s radar over the past year, and he is known for his speed and agility, which would make him a good fit to play alongside United’s captain.

The Swiss international is one of three Dortmund players that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are targeting, along with Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Akanji will almost certainly be the cheapest of the three options, with his current contract at Signal Iduna Park set to expire at the end of next season.

United have been linked with a whole host of centre-halves in recent weeks and it remains to be seen who will emerge as their number one target.
