United Handed Setback In Their Attempts To Sign Highly Rated Brazilian Fullback

Juventus are close to agreeing a new contract with left-back Alex Sandro, according to reports in Italy.

The Brazilian is reportedly set to sign a three-year contract extension, worth €4m a season, keeping him at the Bianconeri until 2023. The defender’s current deal expires in 2020.

Sandro was pursued by Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. He has also been linked with Manchester City and Chelsea in the past, but it is believed this new contract won’t necessarily stop a future transfer from going ahead.

The new deal will effectively protect Juve’s asset if an offer from the Premier League is made either in January or at the end of the season. This means the Serie A club will be able to demand a higher transfer fee.

Sandro has played 18 games for Juventus so far this campaign, having scored no goals and contributed two assists. The 27-year-old played in both Champions League group games against United, playing the full 90 minutes on each occasion.
