United Handed Massive Boost In Their Attempts To Sign Saul Niguez For £65m

Atletico Madrid could be forced to sell Saul Niguez to ease their financial problems, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The La Liga side have been hit badly by the enforced break in football due to the global health crisis and the situation could get worse if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season.

Atletico are currently sixth in the current league standings but if the Spanish authorities decide to end the season prematurely and award final positions, they would miss out on significant revenue from European competition.

Player sales would, therefore, be needed to make up the shortfall. Manchester United are said to be interested in Niguez, but they are not believed to be willing to pay his €150m (£131m) release clause.

The Red Devils would reportedly only be prepared to offer half that amount (€75m or £65m), which under normal circumstances would be seen as too low. However, with Atletico struggling financially, such a bid could well be accepted very soon.
