United fans torn over links with Serie A ace

Manchester United fans are torn over rumours that the Red Devils will move for AC Milan star Leonardo Bonucci this summer.

Bonucci, 31, is being chased by United after he reportedly requested to leave Milan.

The Italy international is thought to want away from the San Siro after the club’s failure to secure Champions League football last term. Milan finished sixth in Serie A, 31 points behind winners Juventus.

Jose Mourinho is looking to add an experienced centre-back to his squad ahead of the new season as he looks for a partner for Ivorian Eric Bailly – and Bonucci is believed to be one of his number one targets.

The Portuguese boss sold Bonucci in 2009 during his time at Inter Milan, however now wants a re-union with his former player after the Italian proved himself to be one of the world’s top centre-halves in the years that followed.

Prior to Bonucci’s move to AC Milan last summer, he was a stalwart in the Juventus side that won an unprecedented six consecutive Serie A titles, and was also a runner up at Euro 2012 with Italy.

United and Mourinho however will face competition from both Chelsea and Manchester City, both of whom also wants to offer the veteran defender a route out of Milan.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri hopes his Italian connection can lure Bonucci to Chelsea, while Pep Guardiola wants the defender to add experience to his young back-line.

However Chelsea’s lack of Champions League football next term and with no promise of first team football at The Etihad, Bonucci could opt to join United.
