Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to praise striker Romelu Lukaku after his brilliant reaction to Nemanja Matic’s winner at Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Jose Mourinho’s side pulled of an astonishing comeback at Selhurst Park to register a 3-2 victory over the Eagles after going 2-0 down.
Andros Townsend opened the scoring in the first-half with a stunning strike before Patrick Van Aanholt capitalised on a quickly taken free-kick to run clean through and slot home to double the hosts advantage.
Chris Smalling then headed home on 55 minutes to give the visitors hope, before Man of the Match Romelu Lukaku levelled the scores with 15 minutes to play with a composed finish from inside a crowded box.
The tie looked to be destined for a draw with the scores level on 90 minutes, however former Chelsea star Nemanja Matic delivered one of the strikes of the season to complete United’s remarkable turnaround and send them back to Manchester with all three points in hand.
The Serbian hammered home a brilliant half-volley from 25 yards into the top corner in extra time – his first goal in a United shirt.
However what caught the attention more than Matic’s stunning strike was the reaction of team-mate Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian has come under heavy criticism in the media for his performances and commitment to the cause this season, leading to speculation he was unhappy at Old Trafford despite only joining in the summer.
After Matic’s winner however, Lukaku fell to his knees and pointed to heavens, before slamming the ground in elation. The United fan’s loved it.
Turns out Lukaku was red at heart all along …
