Manchester United fans are on red alert after Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to confirm he will leave Real Madrid this summer.
Ronaldo left United in 2009 to join Los Blancos in a then world record deal of £80 million, however has been recently linked with a return to his former side after nine seasons in Spain.
The Portugal international won his third consecutive Champions League last night after Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev, with goals coming from first Karim Benzema followed by a Gareth Bale brace – including an incredible overhead kick to give Madrid a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute.
After the final whistle however, Ronaldo teased that his time at Madrid had come to a close.
Asked about his future at the club, he said: “In the next few days I’ll give an answer to the fans.
“It was beautiful to be at Real Madrid. The future of any Madrid player is not important; we have just made history.”
While Ronaldo’s comments appear to confirm his imminent departure from the Bernabeu, there are suggestions that the 33-year-old is using his words as a ploy to bargain for a better contract at Madrid.
Ronaldo signed a new five-year deal with the club back in November 2016, which sees him earn approximately £365,000 per week, making him the club’s highest earner.
