Manchester United fans have heaped praise on ‘Ronaldo-esque’ Marcus Rashford after his brace in the weekend’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Englishman opened the scoring after just 14 minutes when he cut inside beautifully from the left-side of the penalty area to slam the ball into the bottom corner past Loris Karius.
And he produced an almost identical second only ten minutes later – pouncing on a loose ball in the Liverpool penalty area to finish cooly into the bottom corner to take his total for the season to 12 in all competitions.
Eric Bailly made for a nervy ending to the game when the defender turned the ball into his own net after 66 minutes, however United held on for the victory to take them five points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League and cement their claim for this season’s runners-up spot.
Despite Rashford’s goals being the only two shots on target Jose Mourinho’s side managed all afternoon with only 32% possession, the Portuguese insists he felt his side deserved the victory.
“It was a complete performance by us with two different halves,” Mourinho said. “If people don’t think we deserved it, I don’t care.
“I am a bit tired, we have a match on Tuesday. I don’t care what people say. The boys are happy, I’m happy.”
And the fans don’t seem to mind either. Not only were the United faithful thrilled with the youngster’s performance, but his brace may have sparked a case of Deja Vu at Old Trafford too …
