United Fall £18m Short In Bid To Secure Deal For Serie A Playmaker

Manchester United have tabled an €80m (£72m) offer for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Serbian international has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer, although most of those claims have come from Italy, rather than the UK.

United’s bid is said to be €20m (£18m) short of Lazio’s asking price, which is believed to be €100m. Milinkovic-Savic is highly rated by other Serie A sides with Juventus and Inter Milan said to be interested in the midfielder.

The 24-year-old is also reportedly on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar, but so far, it seems the Red Devils are the only team to have firmed up their interest.

Milinkovic-Savic’s price tag does appear to be very steep for a player whose record, in terms of numbers at least, isn’t great. During his time at Lazio, he has scored just 31 goals and provided 18 assists in 162 appearances despite playing in an advanced midfield role.
