United Fall £13.4m Short In Latest Attempt To Sign Portuguese Playmaker

Manchester United have fallen well short with their latest offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

The Red Devils are said to have tabled a €55m (£49.3m) plus bonuses for the 24-year-old, which is still €15m (£13.4m) below Sporting’s €70m (£62.7m) asking price for the player.

Fernandes’s agent Miguel Pinho reportedly returned from England, where he held discussions with both United and Tottenham, to provide his client with an update on negotiations.

Manchester City and Liverpool have also been linked with the midfielder, but both clubs appear to have pulled out of the race.

The Manchester club are said to be hopeful of concluding talks so that Fernandes can link up with the first team during their tour of the Far East.

United are currently in Australia, where they will play Perth Glory and Leeds United in pre-season friendlies. They then travel to Singapore to face Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup before playing Spurs in China later this month.
