United Expected To Make One Last Attempt To Secure 72M Transfer Following Ten Hag Intervention

Manchester United are expected to hold one final meeting with Barcelona about signing Frenkie de Jong, according to De Telegraaf (via Diario Sport).

The Dutch publication claims that manager Erik ten Hag has managed to persuade his club to free up funds for the Dutch international, despite already snapping up Casemiro from Real Madrid.

United are not expected to raise their offer (which stands at around €85m/£72m) for de Jong, and they are not likely to increase their salary proposal to the player either.

It remains to be seen then what the talks between the two teams will be focused on. They could discuss de Jong’s contract situation. The 25-year-old is unwilling to leave the Camp Nou until an agreement is reached on deferred payments. Perhaps United will offer to pay what de Jong is owed, freeing the player to move clubs if he chooses.

With Chelsea also having been heavily linked with the player, though, Erik ten Hag’s side will have to be careful to ensure the deal isn’t hijacked.
