Manchester United have made the “early running” in the battle to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, according to the Telegraph. The Red Devils are said to be the current favourites to land the 19-year-old ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side know they will need to break their transfer record for the England international but they feel that personal terms will not be a problem, with a contract proposal in the region of £200,000 a week expected to be agreed.
Even though it is widely believed that Dortmund will let Sancho leave the Bundesliga side at the end of the season, chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has muddied the waters slightly with his comments that the winger is content to stay in Germany:
“I think he has the feeling that the club does have a good future. In my opinion, I don’t think he wants to leave.”
Whether those words are designed to push up the asking price, it remains to be seen, but there is likely to be a fierce battle for the teenager come the summer.
