United Enter Transfer Battle With Arsenal For £56M Rated French Wonderkid

Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Rennes attacking midfielder Desire Doue, according to Ouest France.

The 18-year-old has turned heads with his performances in Ligue One and INEOS are thought to be very much aware of his talents.

Despite being so young, Doue made 43 appearances in all competitions for Rennes over the course of this season, scoring 4 goals and providing 6 assists.

Although he is ostensibly a no.10, the teenager has been mostly deployed as a winger by head coach Julien Stephan, having made 14 starts from the left flank.

One of Doue’s key strengths is the fact that he is equally strong on both feet so, if he were to make the switch to Old Trafford, he could be deployed right across the frontline if needed.

United will have competition for the player

Doue’s breakout campaign hasn’t gone unnoticed by other clubs, and Ouest France claim that Arsenal will be among his potential suitors.

The Gunners are likely to be joined by Bundesliga trio Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig as well as United in pursuing the forward’s signature this summer.

Doue won’t be available on the cheap

It is believed that Rennes are keen on breaking the record transfer fee they have received for a player. Manchester City splashed out €66m (£56m) on Jeremy Doku last year so Doue could be a very expensive purchase.

Rennes are said to be open to clubs including performance-related add-ons in their bids, but they are reportedly adamant about receiving at least €40m (£34m) upfront.

That is still a sizeable amount to spend on a player who has made just 76 senior appearances in his career but Doue’s potential may tempt many, including United, into making a substantial offer before the end of the transfer window.
