United defender set to leave Old Trafford this summer as Mourinho eyes big money replacement

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly will leave Old Trafford this summer and be replaced by Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.

The Ivory Coast international has been cast aside in recent months by manager Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese preferring both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones at the heart of his defence.

Mourinho and Bailly fell out earlier this year after an incident in which the 24-year-old reported sick before United’s clash with West Brom, only to turn up to training the following day.

He could now be allowed to leave Old Trafford after only two seasons, with Mourinho eyeing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld as his replacement.

Like Bailly, Alderweireld has found himself out of favour at Tottenham having fallen behind youngster Davinson Sanchez in the defensive pecking order.

Jose Mourinho is ready to offer the Belgian a route out of Spurs by making him his first signing of the summer. The Mirror reports that talks between the two clubs have already begun.

The Belgium international is expected to cost United around £75 million.
