Manchester United have triggered their option to extend right-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah’s contract for a further year, according to reports in the English media.
The Dutchman’s current deal was set to expire in the summer, but the Red Devils have decided to keep the fullback so it won’t leave on a free transfer.
Fosu-Mensah has not played for United in a competitive match for three years, having spent two seasons out on loan at Crystal Palace and Fulham.
He sustained a serious knee injury while with the Cottagers back in April last year and he was recalled to undergo extensive rehabilitation.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not played Fosu-Mensah this campaign, with the 22-year-old having only been selected for the Under 23s.
It remains to be seen whether he will feature more prominently next season or if United will choose to cash in on the player when the transfer window reopens.
