United Dealt Serious Injury Blow Ahead Of Game Against Southampton

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw could be out for up to five weeks with a hamstring problem, according to the Daily Mail. The 24-year-old picked up the issue in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Scans on the injury suggest that he will miss at least a month of action with games against Southampton, Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal all on the horizon.

Anthony Martial also sustained a thigh injury in the Palace loss, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said after the match that he is hopeful that it was only a knock and he will be back in training this week.

Diogo Dalot won’t be in contention for the first team until after the international break. The Portuguese Under 21 international has missed the opening three games of the campaign and won’t be in the squad for the trip to St Mary’s this weekend.

Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both knee) are long-term injury absentees, while the fitness of Alexis Sanchez remains a mystery. Two weeks ago, Solskjaer confirmed that the Chilean was close to making his return to the matchday squad but he was not included for the game at the weekend.

There has been speculation over the 30-year-old’s future at the club, with Inter Milan said to be interested, but time is running out for a move to happen with the transfer window for European clubs closing in a matter of days.
