United Dealt Major Setback As Raphael Varane Chooses Next Destination

Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane has decided that he wants to move back to France, according to reports in the Spanish media.

The 28-year-old has been mentioned as a target for Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool over the past few months, but it seems like he will snub a switch to the Premier League in favour of a return to his home country.

Varane has spent almost ten years in Madrid, after moving from Lens in 2011, but with one year remaining on his contract, he has reportedly opted against extending his stay with the La Liga club.

Real are said to be unwilling to let him leave for nothing next summer so they will attempt to offload him for a fee in the region of €50m (£43m) to €60m (£52m).

With Varane holding out for a move to France, there is only one likely destination, and that is Paris Saint-Germain. We shall see if the Ligue One side make a bid for him in the coming weeks.
